sharing our land, our skills and our passion for soil, soul and community
retreats and personal development work
The land here is private and peaceful and is ideal for retreating from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. You can come and spend your days walking the land, reading, writing, undertaking a creative project or exploring the nature reserve. It is possible to be here and not encounter another person and we will respect your privacy.
Not so with the wildlife, there is an abundance of birds, (owls, finches, long tailed tits, buzzards just to mention a few) and bats, dormice, voles, badgers and roe deer all live on the farm. In the nature reserve there are rare flowers (heath lobelia) butterflies, snakes and ancient field systems now taken over by woodland.
The land and nature reserve were originally part of Stanton Moor a settlement going back centuries. Stanton means stony place, there are beautiful granite outcrops everywhere, gorse and ferns. The last inhabited farmstead on the moor lies in ruins on a path in the nature reserve not far from our farm.
If you would like to combine your stay here with some outward exploration, maybe to Dartmoor or the coast I am happy to work with you and act as guide or through discussions I can design a personal retreat for you where your inner personal development is supported by engagement with the beautiful landscape and/or working with the horses in equine assisted learning. I can offer a mentorship programme to support this work, if you find it helpful and supportive working with me.
Many years ago I trained as a teacher and counsellor with a particular interest in Jungian psychology and as an environmental educator/outdoor leader and most recently as an equine assisted therapist. I do not consider myself an expert in anything other than following my own path of personal development through engagement with the natural environment, (often sacred landscapes), journalling and following my heart. It is my joy and life's work to support others in doing this, journeying towards meaningful balanced, lives, overcoming the unavoidable heartbreaks and traumas of living in the world and coming to a place where we live from both our heart and head with greater awareness...
My previous work has included leading workshop/retreats to Dartmoor, The Brecon Beacons, The Brickleive mountains of Sligo, Ireland, Isles of Lewis and Harris, Transylvania and the Arctic, as well as drum making for individuals or groups (frame drums from ash or oak hoops and deer skin), working with the horse energies though my Horse Messages programme and a regular monthly drumming group, Moon Drummers, which is still held in Hertfordshire. My husband Simon has a deteriorating eye condition and increasing blindness, so I dont travel away much these days and mostly work locally in Devon, on Dartmoor, the dramatic coastline here and the beautiful Avon and Erme Valleys.
